The streets.
The Farolito Walk is free, and open to everyone - especially those young at heart - of all ages. No reservations or tickets are needed. The walk starts on Christmas Eve at dusk, is extremely popular, and draws thousands of people each year. Please be prepared for crowds and a slow moving pace. To avoid the rush, consider coming later in the evening around 8 PM. Strollers are very difficult to maneuver along the cobblestone streets and uneven sidewalks, in addition to blocking pedestrian paths and causing traffic jams. For the courtesy and enjoyment of everyone, please leave your strollers at home.
The galleries.
Gallery participation in the Farolito Walk is solely dependent on the individual owners and curators. Some galleries are closed for the Farolito Walk; some galleries are open; and some galleries are open, have bonfires, and offer hot cider. Heaven! If you have a favorite gallery, please contact them directly for hours of operation on Christmas Eve.
The restaurants.
Many restaurants along Canyon Road are open for dinner on Christmas Eve. This is actually a wonderful way to enjoy the Farolito Walk. Spend an hour or two wandering and wondering along Canyon Road, then duck into a warm restaurant, in a table next to a pinon fire, and enjoy the amazing cuisine for which Santa Fe is known world-wide. But make your dining reservations early... January perhaps? The sooner the better. Contact your favorite restaurant directly for hours of operation, and reservations, on Christmas Eve.
Click here for a list of several restaurants that are open on Christmas Eve and Day. We adore Luminaria. But all of them are excellent.
